Heavy vehicle modifications

From 10 February 2014, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is responsible for the management of modifications to heavy vehicles in participating jurisdictions.

Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory are the participating jurisdictions from the commencement of the NHVR.

To answer the most commonly asked questions about modifications to heavy vehicles (gross vehicle mass of more than 4.5t), the department has developed a list of frequently asked questions and answers.

State Specific Modification Codes

Current Queensland specific modification codes:

• S10 – Concessional Livestock Loading (PDF, 356 KB)

In addition to the codes that have been included in the NHVR’s Code of Practice for the Approval of Heavy Vehicle Modifications, the Bus Life Extension (S13) code in the Queensland Code of Practice—Vehicle Modifications has also been retained.
