Motorway Breakdown Response Service

If your vehicle is stopped on a motorway in South East Queensland, the vehicle must be removed for your safety, ensuring the flow of traffic and the safety of other motorists.

Transport and Main Roads can organise assistance for your vehicle to be quickly removed from the motorway to a predetermined safe drop-off point.    

Who can use the service?

This service is available for all vehicles under 2.5 tonnes, such as family and commercial vehicles. Vehicles involved in traffic accidents or heavy vehicles that cannot be removed by a road service patrol or a standard tow truck are excluded from this service.

When and where is the service available?

In peak periods, vehicles in a priority breakdown clearance zone will be moved as soon as practicable. Priority clearance zones cover most motorways in South East Queensland.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How to use the service

If your car has broken down, and you don't have roadside assistance call 13 19 40.

If your vehicle only needs fuel or water to get going

If you run out of fuel or water and stop on the motorway, call 13 19 40 or use the roadside help phone for assistance. Up to 5 litres of fuel at a set price can be provided to get you moving again. Water can also be provided without cost.
